Our High Priest Is Not From Levi

Point 1: Our High Priest is NOT from Levi
The Levitical priesthood consisted of only those of the tribe of Levi, and the Levitical priests ministered the Law of Moses according to the Levitical covenant.
But if the priesthood is changed, if the covenant is changed, it follows there will be a change in the Law.
“For the priesthood being CHANGED, of necessity there is also a
CHANGE of the law. For he of whom these things are spoken
belongs to another tribe, from which no man has officiated at
the altar. For it is evident that our Lord arose from JUDAH,
of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.”
Hebrews 7:12-14
Yeshua, Jesus, is from the tribe of Judah. So we are under an entirely different covenant, with different ordinances and commands. Therefore, the Levitical covenant has nothing to do with us. He has established a new covenant with us. The laws of our covenant are to be written NOT in stone, but on our hearts.
“…and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter;
whose praise is not from men but from God.”
Romans 2:29
In the New Testament there were “Judaizers” telling the gentiles that they needed to come under the law. So the Apostles in Jerusalem wrote a letter to the gentiles telling them that they were NOT to come under the Levitical laws.
“For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us,
to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:
1. that you abstain from things offered to idols,
2. from blood,
3. from things strangled,
4. and from sexual immorality.
If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.”
Acts 15:28-29

Point 2:
Our laws do not include keeping of days or of dietary laws.
“So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a
festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of
things to come, but the substance is of Christ.”
Colossians 2:16-17
“One man esteems one day above another, another esteems every
day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
He who regards the day, regards it unto the Lord; and he who
regards not the day, to the Lord he does not regard it. He who
eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who eats
not, to the Lord he eats not, and gives God thanks.”
Romans 14:5-6
Note that we are not to judge them either.

Point 3:
There is no Sabbath law in the New Testament
Throughout the Old Testament is the admonition to keep the Sabbath. In the New Testament it is not mentioned at all. If God wanted us to keep the Sabbath and practice circumcision, and stay away from non-kosher foods it would be mentioned throughout the New Testament as it was throughout the Old, but it is not. Paul went to the synagogues on the Sabbaths not to keep the law, but because that’s where people gathered and he went there to preach. He did not say, nor did Jesus, nor any of the apostles, that we are to keep the Sabbath and keep the laws of the Levitical covenant.

Point 4:
We are clearly warned NOT to go back to the Levitical laws.
“O FOOLISH Galatians! Who has bewitched you
that you should not obey the truth,
before whose eyes Jesus Christ
was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?
This only I want to learn from you:
Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law,
or by the hearing of faith?”
Galatians 3:1-2

Point 4: my personal observation
In my visits to Messianic congregations I’ve noticed that all discussion usually centers around the law, and the one word I rarely heard was “Jesus,” (Yeshua in Hebrew). He was not the focus of their lives, their focus was on how to better keep the law.
